WE ARE

So I promised a post on my vacation this week during my Beauty Minute post. Well I can't really go into detail about the week but I can say that it was and always is an amazing experience. I spent the week volunteering at a camp for kids with chronic illness, Victory Junction. Victory Junction is a part of the SeriousFun :) camp network and serves children ages 6-16 who have a chronic illness or disability and their siblings.

During the week they are able to participate in many activities that the outside world tells them isn't possible. They zipline, climb an Alpine Tower, ride bikes for the first time, go boating, swimming, ride horses, shot archery, do wood working, perform, and participate in their very own carnival. We refer to it is as NASCARnival.

The camp was started by the Petty family after their son, Adam, was killed during qualification at a race. In the years previously he had participated in a motorcycle ride to support Hole in the Wall Gang, which was just renamed Serious Fun Camps. It was Adam's dream to open a camp in NC that provided the same experience. So his parents opened Victory Junction in his honor.

This was the 10th summer the camp has been open and it was awesome to see all the amazing sponsors come together to continue to donate to this wonderful organization. Krispy Kreme actually presented a check for $583,000 on Tuesday during NASCARnival. And Kangaroo sponsored many of the kids that came to camp this year. That's one of the best things about Victory Junction, it's free for kids to come. Funds are raised all year so that all expenses are covered for each camper to come to camp. It cost on average $2500/camper per week to come since there are many times that they receive medical treatments at camp.

If you want more information check out the links below. I'll link both the specific camp and the camp network so you can see if there is one in your area.

So get out there and volunteer, you're changing someone's life and changing your own.

Until next time! xo
