Color Me Rad 2013

In life I believe that it is important to have fun. I believe this is true also in fitness; we are more likely to workout if we are having fun doing it. You can have a fun fitness life!

Pick fintess options that you enjoy, this way you look forward to completing them. I really look forward to fun 5ks. The Color Me Rad is no exception.

We arrived in Greensboro about an hour before the race was starting, went and stood in line to pick up our packets with our shirts, sunglasses, and numbers. Yes sunglasses are a NECESSITY for this race. But I'll explain that later. As more runner started filing in they started the first waves of the race. During the wait time between waves, the race staff played music, danced, gave Zumba lessons, and just had fun. We decided we wanted to head out in the 9:30 wave. (They did  multiple waves because there were over 7500 people signed up to run and they were still allowing registration that morning) As we were waiting for our wave we saw the first runner return with the pace car, or truck, since it was a HUGE truck. The last race I did, the pace car was a Smart Car.  The MC for the event congratulated the runner for "winning a noncompetitive, non timed event!" Everyone gets to have fun at Color Me Rad Events and everyone is encouraged to participate at their level. I saw people pushing wheelchairs, strollers, people walking, running, jogging, and a mix of it all.

Each kilometer of the race there is a color station where volunteers either throw or spray colored cornstarch on you. There is also a water station at the half way point of the race. So there are little rest breaks if you need it or want it. These areas do cause a little bit of a slow down.

So here are the pretty impressive before and after pictures!

The important thing is to find something you enjoy that gets you moving and then DO IT! If a fun 5k is the way to go, master that then move on to a fun 10k. I hear there is a half marathon called the Rock 'n Roll Marathon that you get a live concert every mile of the race and then finish with a huge concert at the end.
